Account Books & Ledgers

Red cover with wavy design of R.L. Nixon Account Book
The Burlington County Library has purchased or been gifted several account books, ledgers, and registers from residents of the county, dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries. While the books give insight into the specific operations that they are charting, they can also provide readers and researchers with a snapshot of daily life at that point in time. Entries mention figures from the community, illuminate their needs via purchases and supplies, and may contain short commentary on contemporary goings-on.
